I have always been a picky eater, ever since I can remember. It’s not always taste, but also texture. For instance, I LOVE the taste of strawberries, but I can’t actually eat a strawberry. Certain texture types have kept me from eating things I might actually love!
About 3 weeks ago I finally joined the team of another Instagram mama. She’d asked me a few times before, so I took her up on her free 2 week accountability group. I didn’t have high expectations, but I needed to do something because I wasn’t happy in my skin. She uses BeachBody OnDemand, and I started the 21 Day Fix workout routine. Let. Me. Tell. You. These workouts are NO JOKE! I pushed myself harder then I ever have, and decided to start making small goals for myself diet wise. I knew I didn’t want to do a diet, I’d feel restricted and I’d quit. I’d done it before, so I knew how it’d go. First I set a water intake goal of 80 oz a day. I’m not a drinker of anything. So to think I’d have drink that much water seemed unrealistic. But it turned out much easier then I thought. Water was & is the only beverage I’m having, no soda, no lemonade, no tea, nothing. Only water. And then I made a goal to get in 2 17 oz bottles in before noon (not a lot i know) and then 3 more before bed. That gave me 85 oz, and it was a lot easier then I thought. By now, it’s just a routine. I don’t even think about It anymore. So then I decided to not “track my calories“ but to be mindful of how many I’m consuming verses how many I’m burning. My goal is to lose a good 30-35 pounds and replace it with muscle. I found this equation to figure out how many I’m burning I’ll link that below:
After I did the equation, I burn roughly 3100 with exercise. Now this number is different for everyone, but that’s the number I’m working with. So I decided to have a small breakfast, and lunch, but dinner would be my larger meal. My breakfast & lunch are usually the same :
1 Starbucks Vanilla Frappicino- 200 calories
1 apple or Banana 95-105 calories
Here lately I’ve been having a Banana Chocolate Chip muffin by Garden Lites instead - 120 calories
These muffins are to die for & they’re vegetarian! They come in a variety of flavors as well.
My Lunch:
Handful of unsalted almonds
Cheese cubes (about a handful)
Triscuits (I like roasted garlic)
and a fruit (I typically have grapes)
Then for dinner it varies, some nights I have plant based burgers by Gardein, plant based tacos by the same brand. And I just found plant based mandarin orange chicken by Gardein, paired it with PF Chang’s rice & it was to. die. for. I typically do my exercises in the evening, so I try to have a lighter dinner. Sometimes that’s scrambled eggs and fruit, or it’s what i listed above. Now I’m not vegan, or a vegetarian, but if I have the option to eat plant based I will. But if I’m craving a big ole cheeseburger I’ll have that. I don’t deprive myself, if I’m craving it, I’ll have it (if I HAVE to have it). But I try to find alternatives. For instance I bought low calorie ice cream bars made with Greek yogurt, so if I’m craving ice cream I reach for those. If I need chocolate, I have my trail mix, I’ll have a small bowl. I also snack on pretzels if I need too. But I don’t snack often & I don’t eat after 6pm. I also am watching my portions. Following all of this with working out, I lost 3 pounds in less then 2 weeks! My point of all of this is, if you’re unhappy with how you look, do something to make a change. And if you’re a picky eater like me, there is so much out there right now, there really is no excuse!
